Toulon – Wayne Henry Winans, 92, of Toulon, passed away at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Carle Eureka Hospital. Wayne was born on November 13, 1931 in Kewanee to Joseph Henry and Mildred Pauline (Parrish) Winans. He married Carol Jane Goodwin in Pearl Harbor Submarine Base in Hawaii on June 13, 1954. She preceded him in death on August 17, 2020.
Surviving are three daughters, Cindy (Jerry) Stapel of Toulon, Susan (Bill) Weibel of Kalispell, MT, and Linda Ater of Bloomington; seven grandchildren Chris Stapel, Jonathan (Mary) Stapel, Bethany (Jason) Krieg, Doug (Lisa) Weibel, Laura (Warren) Obenski, Michael Ater, and Kyle Ater; 9 great-grandchildren, Anna, Micah, Joel, Asher, Lakyn, Davis, Blake, Lucille, and Miles; one brother-in-law, John (Bonnie) Goodwin of Toulon; two nephews; and two nieces. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marilyn Boyer; and his beloved mini dachshund, Lovie.
Wayne was a United States Navy submarine veteran, serving from 1951 to 1955. He worked as an electrician for 41 years and managed several rental properties in the Toulon area. He served on the Toulon Fire Department for 20 years and was a trustee for 14 years. He was a 40+ year member of the Toulon Lions Club, and 50+ year member of the American Legion Post #416. He was also a member of the First Christian Church in Kewanee.
Carol and Wayne enjoyed traveling together and they often spent time during the winter in Florida. Wayne enjoyed running in various 5k races, participating in and following sports, and he was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
A visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Haskell Funeral & Cremation Services in Wyoming. A private burial with military honors will be in Toulon Cemetery.
