James M. Wilson

ENCS(SS) James Marshall Wilson, "Tiru Willie", served on the USS Tiru  from 31 July 1956 to 25 June 1967 as an Chief Engineman, he was designated Chief of the Boat for seven years. He retired from the Navy in July 1967. Chief Wilson enlisted in the Navy on 15 June 1937, his first boat was the S-24. He also served on the O-6 (SS-67), USS Greenling (SS-213) (9 war patrols), and the USS Chopper (SS-342). The Secretary of the Navy (Fred Korth) presented Chief Wilson with the Navy Commendation Medal on 2 February 1963. Senior Chief Wilson died on 16 September 1972 at Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu  and is buried at the (Punch Bowl) National Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu along with his wife Elfrieda (Loni) (believe to have died in 1975).
