Captain William P. Willis, Jr., USN
(ret), a native of
Atlanta, Georgia, died on 2 June 2008 at Ellicott City, Maryland. During World
War II, after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1941, he served on the
USS Hoe, SS-258. After the war, Captain Willis served as Executive Office on the
USS Skipjack SS-184, as Executive Officer of USS Tiru SS-416 from June 1950 to
August 1951, as Commanding Officer of the USS Greenfish SS-351, and as
Commanding Officer of USS Sam Houston SSBN-609 (Blue). After retiring from the
Navy He worked at the Applied Physics Laboratory at John Hopkins. Captain Willis
will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery on 25 August 2008.
