Chief Electrician Mate Carl T. Schlmelzer, USN (ret), 72,
died on 19 July 1983. He was born 2 February 1911.
Chief Schlmelzer served aboard the USS Tiru (SS416) as COB and Chief Electrician from 22
August 1949 to 3 December 1949. He also served on many other submarines
including the USS Spadefish (SS411), USS Sturgeon (SS187), and the
USS Parche (SS384). He retired from the US Navy on 2 December 1949 (see
February 1950 All Hands news article below).
