James Carl Newton

James Newton of Gladstone, Oregon died on 19 November 1989. He was born 24 August 1937. TMSN Newton reported aboard USS Tiru (SS416) on 13 July1956, qualifying in submarines on 1 July 1957 and was advanced to Petty Officer Torpedoman Third Class on 16 February 1957. Petty Officer Newton left Tiru as a TM3(SS) on 15 July 1958 for separations. His time of service on active duty was from 13 June 1955 until 11 August 1958 followed by Reserve service until 12 June 1963.

During Petty Officer Newton's time on USS Tiru - Tiru conducted three difficult intelligence gathering operations in the Western Pacific under the Command of Commander McDonald.
