James Robert Hunt

Quartermaster Chief James R. Hunt, USN, was killed in action by artillery fire in GoCong, South Vietnam on 23 August 1979 at the age of 29 (his body was recoverd). He was attached to River Assault Division 153, TF 117, USNavFor, having started his Vietnam tour on 27 April 1970. He reported to the USS Tiru SS416 as a Fireman Apprentice from Submarine School New London on 17 April 1959 and was transferred to USS Bashaw SSK241 on 20 June 1959.  Chief Hunt was from Columbus, Indiana and was born on 7 December 1940, enlisting in the Navy in 1960.
