Chief Radioman Albert R. Abel (SS), died on 11 May 2008 at Portsmouth, Virginia, at the age
of 85. He was
born in Marshfield, Oregon on 7 November 1922.
Chief Abel, a Tiru plank-owner, served as a Radioman 1st Class (SS) on the USS Tiru SS416 from September 1948 until March 1949. He joined the United States Navy in December 1941 and served in World War II, Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He retired in 1971 after 30 years of service as a submariner. |
