Commander Richard E. Meese, US Navy (ret)

Commander Meese graduated from the University of Idaho in 1958. He served in the USS Sturtevant DER-239 and USS Newell DER-322 prior to attending Submarine school in 1961. Commander Meese served on the submarines USS Queenfish AGSS-393 and the USS Bugara SS-331 followed by a tour on the Staff of Commander Mine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet. He attended the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island in 1967 and 1968 and received a Master's degree in International Studies from George Washington University. From 1968 to 1970 he served as Executive Officer of the USS Carbonero SS-337 in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. After the Carbonero he served at the Office of the Deputy Chief of Naval Operation (Submarine Warfare). Commander Meese assumed command of the USS Tiru SS-416 on 7 April 1972 until 26 March of 1974.
